Hello, and welcome back to In The Pipeline! I’m Emma White, a proud OCU Group marketing team member. We are excited to bring you the second episode of our series, focusing on the Verneway Project. Before we dive into the details, please take a moment to follow us on our social channels: Instagram (@OCU_group) and LinkedIn (OCU).
Today, we’re heading to our site near Delamere Forest. We are currently working on an ambitious project: a pipeline that transports drinking water from Lake Fernway in Wales to Prescott in Merseyside. You’ll hear from our Project Director, Mark Reynolds, and our Customer Liaison Manager, Karen Cook, about various facets of this exciting initiative.
In discussing the project’s significance, Mark Reynolds shared insights on its environmental considerations and logistical challenges. One standout element is the modernization of the existing pipeline system, which involves strategically minimal excavations rather than major upheavals. This ensures that local disruptions are kept to a minimum while maintaining the high quality of water supply.
Karen Cook, our Customer Liaison Manager, spoke about her role in bridging the gap between OCU Group and the local community. Through customer sessions, drop-in events, and information evenings, she ensures that residents are well-informed and comfortable with the progress and impact of our work.
Mark provided a detailed explanation of the technical aspects of the pipeline work, highlighting excavation procedures, welding processes, and internal pipe cleaning protocols. It’s a meticulous effort that requires extensive planning and precision, including measures like Magnetic Particle Inspections (MPI) to guarantee the integrity of the welds.
Our exploration continued with a visit to the site in Delamere Forest, where I, along with Kyle Terry, observed the ongoing work. It was eye-opening to see the scale of the forest and understand the complexity of operating in such an environment. Speaking with Mark and the team, it was clear how carefully planned and executed every step is, from securing the site to maintaining safety standards.
Karen also emphasized the importance of clear communication with the public to minimize disruptions and enhance understanding. Her efforts in organizing local events and innovative approaches, like using media vans for updates, ensure the community stays well-informed and supportive of the project.
Now, let’s move on to news from the OCU Group. We have several announcements and achievements to celebrate:
