Hello and welcome back to In The Pipeline. I’m Emma White, a proud member of the marketing team here at OCU Group. We’re excited to bring you highlights from our recent endeavours, particularly our venture into the electric vehicle (EV) market with OCU Evolution.
In case you missed our announcement, OCU Evolution made its grand debut last week at the 2023 London EV show. This milestone marks OCU Group’s first visit to the event, and the reception has been overwhelmingly positive. From our vibrant green LED-lit stand to our passionate team, it was clear that OCU Evolution is ready to make waves in the EV marketplace.
Initial Impressions: The day kicked off with a bustling crowd eager to learn about our innovative charging solutions. With our skilled staff fielding numerous enquiries, it was clear that interest in OCU Evolution was sky-high.
Brand Awareness: One of our main objectives for attending the show was to solidify OCU Evolution’s position in the market. We wanted to emphasize that OCU is not just another installer – we are the installer. Our team is dedicated to providing top-notch products and services, a commitment that the industry has come to expect from us across our sectors.
We had the chance to catch up with several key figures during the show. Our Operations Director, Mike Cafferkey, shared insights into the origins and goals of OCU Evolution. Here’s a snippet from our conversation:
Emma: “Mike, could you tell us a little bit more about OCU Evolution and where it began?”
Mike: “Absolutely. OCU Evolution came about six months ago. The group identified it as a crucial marketplace. Given our existing skill sets in high and low-voltage operations within regulated industries, transitioning into the EV sector was a natural progression. We are positioned to serve various segments, including destination charging, workplace and fleet solutions, and heavy commercial applications like buses and marine vehicles.”
Our discussion further highlighted the importance of OCU’s involvement in the energy transition sector. Reducing greenhouse gases and enhancing electromobility is a priority for us. As battery technology advances and costs decrease, the transition to electric vehicles becomes more accessible to the general public. This movement isn’t limited to personal vehicles; over time, we expect larger commercial vehicles to adopt this shift as well.
Engaging with Attendees: Richard King, Operations Manager at OCU, provided a detailed overview of our presence at the show, emphasizing crucial aspects like installation and maintenance. Our goal was to familiarize attendees with the new department and reassure them of our capability and dedication to this emerging market.
Looking Ahead: The buzz around hydrogen as an alternative fuel was another hot topic. While interest is growing, we believe that the market and technology for hydrogen solutions are still a few years away. Our focus remains steadfast on advancing EV technologies, but we remain open to exploring new innovations as the industry evolves.
Awards and Accolades: On the home front, a huge congratulations to the OCU HDD team for winning the UKSTT Large Installation Award for the Corin Narrows project. The award was proudly received by the team last Wednesday, showcasing our excellence in the HDD solutions arena.
No Dig Roadshow: Our team also made a significant impact at the No Dig Roadshow last week, displaying our innovative internal pipe seals and trenchless technology in partnership with UK Polymers and Northaven.
