Investing in our people is crucial to delivering our projects safely and professionally, which is just one of the many reasons as to why OCU Group proudly opened the OCU Academy in Sheffield.

Our training courses cater to individuals with all levels of understanding, from novices to seasoned professionals, and will always meet the demands of the ever-evolving electrical industry.

This highlights our commitment to improving contracting standards for energy transition and utilities, with the best people and capabilities.

We have an amazing team of assessors who have completed training courses to learn their crafts, as well as taking time to complete their Level 3 Assessor CAVA (Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement), Level 4 IQA (Internal Quality Assurance), and other craft modules.

Jamie Bettison, Trainer and Assessor, said,

“I focus a lot on making the materials we have more accessible, whether that be in terms of learning needs or languages.

“We have translated a lot of documents into the required languages.”

The team, all with such varied experience, are spread across three of our training locations: Sheffield, Borehamwood and Neath. Each site holds a model village, a place where engineers can practise their skills in realistic scenarios.

Adam Robinson, National Technical Training Manager, said,

“With the model village, we wanted to create a WOW factor to anyone that walked in.

“It’s a way to help apprentices to understand and practice the skills that they are learning about on their courses, which is crucial to their progression.

Our centres provide CompEx training and certification, including CompEx Gas/Vapour, Dust, Mechanical, Refresher, Responsible Persons and Foundation courses.

They also provide EAL training and certification, including Portable Appliance Testing, 18th Edition wiring regulations, inspection and testing, and electric vehicle charging points.

Wesley Marsden, Trainer and Assessor, also added,

“My aim is to support OCU Academy in becoming the main provider of apprenticeships.”
