Our Work in the Rail Sector

We are a market leader in the design, installation and commissioning of Power and Telecommunication networks with over 25 years’ experience in the construction of networks for the UK’s Utility Providers. We also provide specialist infrastructure services to the Rail sector, working under our Principal Contractors Licence (PCL), which was issued to us by Network Rail and enables us to work trackside on a range of projects under our own safety management and assurance policies.

We have built upon our successful Power and Telecoms capabilities with experienced and successful professionals to establish a team with a proven track record of railway infrastructure delivery. The key individuals within this team have over 50 years’ combined experience in delivering railway infrastructure  on a live railway environment, including the delivery  of multi-million pound work packages comprising fibre optic and copper installation, super armoured fibre installation, construction of transmission and GSM-R sites, troughing renewals and under track crossings,  including possession planning and management.

Contract Requirements Technical received as part of the contract award documentation. Produce contract documentation (CPP/QMP/EMP/ITPs) and forward to Client for acceptance. Primavera Programme for work scope.

In line with the P6 programme timescales request track access, produce Safe Work Packs and Task Briefing Sheets (SWP / TBS) utilising On Trac SWP software.

Attend design survey on track. Produce design in line with Network Rail 'Engineering Management for Projects' NR/L2/INI/02009 standard.

Construction of Railway cable routes.

Construction of fibre joint chambers and associated handrails/walkways/hardstandings etc.

Installation of railway access gates to enable safe access for maintenance.

Constuction of railway cabinets and Stakka chambers providing cable breakouts to off rail customers.

Jointing and splicing works in line with Network Rail Standards. Rail lineside feeder station. MNO Power supply for REB. GSM-R infill Monopole and antenna at Henley on Thames. Patchlead in REB at Henley in Thames.

Rail Compliance.

Compilation and submission of Health and Safety file documentation. Update Network Rail Elipse system.

The OCU rail capabilities have recently been enhanced via acquisition to expand our offering to include electrical engineering design, install, commissioning and maintenance of High Voltage (HV) power transmission and distribution systems.

Our capabilities now also include specialist services in railway 25kV overhead line and 750v DC traction power distribution and inter-substation protection to support the delivery of the railway electrification programme.
