OCU Group invests in the future of electromobility

Energy and Utilities specialist OCU Group has launched its EV and Microgrid focussed business unit to provide electric vehicle charging and energy management solutions to businesses across the UK.

OCU Evolution will equip businesses with the infrastructure required to meet carbon reduction targets and to enhance convenience EV drivers on the move while futureproofing operations by making them more sustainable.

The new venture will meet the changing needs of customers in the market for EV integration and serve the increasing demand for infrastructure across the UK. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reported a 50% increase in sales of Plug-in Hybrid Electric vehicles and a 19% increase in Battery Electric vehicles registered on the road this September, in comparison to the same period in 2022*.

From installing and connecting infrastructure through to providing charging units for cars, lorries and buses, as well as ongoing maintenance and commissioning of substations, solar panels and batteries, OCU Evolution will provide businesses with the complete EV and Energy Management package.

Heading up the new business unit is Mike Cafferky, Operations Director at OCU, who brings 25 years of senior leadership experience in contracting, spanning EV infrastructure, power, utilities, highways, and civil engineering sectors. Mike brings extensive knowledge in full contract lifecycle management, strategic collaboration, driving performance improvements and today leads OCU Evolution; connecting businesses with innovative greener e-mobility charging solutions.

Mike said: “The goal of OCU Evolution is to support businesses transitioning to EV solutions with the knowledge, resources and infrastructure required. We’ve designed the business in a way that adapts collaborative working with businesses from early-stage specification through to planning, implementation, testing and switching on to ensure the transition is simple.

“Whether you have 50 cars or 50 sites, need two megawatts or 200 chargers, or just need to replace your existing damaged or outdated chargers – we’re ready to help businesses make the relevant changes required to meet Net Zero ambitions.”

OCU Evolution will launch at the London EV Show which runs from the 28th to the 30th of November and is inviting attendees to take part in its interactive ‘timescale calculator’ which will highlight how long it would take to complete the installation of a new EV charging system.

Michael Hughes, Chief Executive Officer of OCU Group, commented: “As the demand for charging infrastructure continues to grow, OCU has created an integrated, end-to-end solution to help businesses transition to greener operations.

“This new venture goes beyond solely installing charging infrastructure. It will help business accelerate their dedication to environmental, social and governance goals. It’s a really exciting time for OCU Group as a whole and we look forward to working with businesses across the UK to drive a new era in EV.”
